Officially kicked off with Resistance 3 last month, Sony’s PSN Online Pass for first-party titles should have been expected to be a staple of their future big guns — especially if they included any kind of online multiplayer component. It should surprise no one to learn that Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception makes use of it. Are you surprised?
Speaking to The Vault, Sony Spain Software Manager Juan Jiménez confirmed November’s epic from Naughty Dog will include the Online Pass voucher in new copies. That also means you’ll get it if you pick up the Collector’s Edition, or the Uncharted 3 PS3 slim bundle, too.
It’ll be identical to how Resistance 3 managed it: the one-time use redemption code will allow new purchasers to access the multiplayer as per usual, while requiring a $10 fee from used copy buyers and/or renters to unlock it. Hooray for business trends!
Uncharted 3‘s out November 1st.
[Update]: SCEA has chimed in to further confirm the Online Pass, just in case you had doubts. Sony also says that, as mentioned above, the pass will be used in all “future Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios games with online functionality.”
