Steamworks is finally heading to consoles (well, a console) next week, debuting in Portal 2 on PS3. We already know what that basically meant for players, but Valve has gone into crazy detail today.
In addition to scoring a free Steam version of Portal 2 with your PS3 copy, Steamworks will let players utilize could saving for co-op and single-player, cross-platform matchmaking, player profiles, Steam Friends and voice/text chat functionality, and of course achievements — all presented via the Steam Overlay, accessed by pressing your DualShock 3’s “select” button.
“Steam on the PS3 provides access to all of these features once the player has linked their PlayStation Network account with a Steam account, which is done right within the game. A Steam user can login to an existing account, and anyone new to Steam can create an account with the click of a button,” says Valve.
The full rundown is quite impressive, so make sure you hit it up and get educated before next Tuesday. To the future of gaming!
