Not jumped on the 3D gaming bandwagon yet? Were you planning to take the plunge later this year, and pick up Sony’s PlayStation-branded 3DTV and glasses bundle, to be packed with Resistance 3? Good news: that’s still coming for those interested, and still at the kind of acceptable price. Bad news: the pack-in showcase game has been replaced.
Developer Insomniac confirmed this week via Twitter that Resistance 3, while still one of Sony’s 3D-enabled PS3 exclusives, is no longer included with the high-def display bundle. Instead, Sony is inserting a copy of Evolution’s MotorStorm: Apocalypse, released a few months ago. Which many of you may have already bought.
“MotorStorm: Apocalypse offers high-octane action and was built from the ground up for 3D, making it a great out-of-the-box experience for all types of gamers. Its split-screen racing mode is perfect for the 3D Display’s special two-player feature, which allows both players to see individual, unique, full-screen images of gameplay. The 3D Display will be available this fall/holiday, as several blockbuster PS3 exclusives will be launching with 3D, including Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception,” said the publisher in a statement to GameSpot.
There’s no confirmed date for the 3DTV package yet, but it’s due in the coming months. Retailing for $499.99, it features a 24-inch HD screen with Sony’s ‘unique’ (but already being utilized elsewhere) dual image technology, an HDMI cable, and a pair of 3D glasses.
