Battlefield 3 is still over eight months away, but we already know it’s receiving day-one multiplayer DLC thanks to EA’s Online Pass/Limited Edition upgrade program. Plunk down a pre-order, and you’ll automatically receive the Limited Edition, which grants you access to the “Back to Karkand” expansion, containing classic Battlefield 2 content remade in Frostbite 2.0. Nifty!
On DICE’s official forums, the studio laid out just what the DLC pack will contain in terms of playable arenas, and we’re in for a treat. Updated remakes of Wake Island, Strike at Karkand, Gulf of Oman, and the Sharqi Peninsula are on their way, in addition to yet-to-be-detailed “classic Battlefield 2 weapons and vehicles, unique rewards, new achievements/trophies, and more.”
Sounds like a deal! Further teasing their already hinted aggressive post-launch content plans, the studio added they “can’t comment” on other maps getting spruced up for an encore performance, but implied that’s definitely in the cards.
Back to Karkand will be available for an undisclosed fee after BF3′s launch this fall, for those who opt to reject free stuff.
