During the light on details announcement, Capcom teased serious community involvement with the development of Nintendo 3DS title Mega Man Legends 3, and promised to spill the beans at New York Comic-Con this weekend. As many had suspected, fans are going to be able to contribute to this project in ways they might not have ever imagined.

Capcom’s Keiji Inafune revealed to the NYCC audience the Dev Room section of CapcomUnity, which will allow gamers to submit ideas and concepts for levels, bosses, characters, attacks and more, even trying for a spot on the voice acting cast. And kick-starting this ingenious (and maybe desperate?) move, fans can now vote on their favorite design for the female heroine, choosing from the nine available versions seen above.

We’ll show you illustrations, etc. that we wouldn’t normally show until much closer to the games’ release and other planning materials that no one on the outside would ordinarily have access to. We’ll even bring cameras into the development room to give you an early look at the game as a work in progress and give you an inside look at how our development team makes games,” writes game director Masakazu Eguchi.

Definitely an…interesting concept, to say the least. Mega Man fans are a unique bunch, and this could and hopefully will result in a game that players deem worthy of a decade of waiting. It could also lead to some truly horrific ideas, knowing what people think up these days. be sure to keep an eye on the Dev Room, and make your voices heard!
