The Dead Rising franchise has hit just about platform out there except for handhelds, and that ends this holiday with a portable version headed to iPhone and iPod Touch.

Capcom’s iDevice rendition of the zombie apocalypse survival romp features photojournalist Frank West, once again fighting through the undead hordes in the giant, item-stocked Willamette Mall. Capcom isn’t simply porting the first Dead Rising either, as this is from-the-ground-up project for Apple’s gaming system, complete with original story and touch controls. You’ll still have the standard leveling system we’ve become used to, as well as use-what-you-can weapon system.

IGN’s preview mentions that the game includes new connectivity and social networking features, utilizing the likes of Twitter and Facebook. A “Rescue Call” is projected across your social network feeds when you’re downed, allowing friends with the game to assist you in keeping your earned PP. If you opt to respawn, you lose some experience points. Further, if your call goes unanswered, you’ll become a zombie that can enter and roam the game of a friend. Neat!

So far Capcom hasn’t offered a release date or price point for iDead Rising (I hope that is the name, and not some ridiculous subtitle), but stay tuned.
